“To me, to live is Christ and to die is gain”
Paul’s letter to the Philippians
Paul’s letter to the Philippians is intense. The apostle already knows that Christ is unique, and that the gospel changes everything. But now that he is facing his own possible execution, these things throb with new and vivid reality and every distraction seems to fade away.
Paul loves the church at Philippi. It has been called his ‘sweetheart church’. They have sent him a gift, and he writes back with more than just a thank you. He gives shares with them his own deep joy in Christ. He wants them to know as he knows, and to see as he sees – because this Christ-shaped view of reality changes everything.
